Peter Luger Steak House

Perfect perfect perfect...recently visited from London with the family 3 kids, 11 and under on a Saturday evening. Perfect service, the best steak in New York and great service...what more could you want. Don't ask for a menu, get a mixture of tomatoe and onion, shrimp and bacon appetizers with the onion bread and plenty of steak sauce, follow that with the porterhouse with creamed spinach and fries...finish up with cheesecake or 'Holy Cow' chocolate overload with plenty of Schlag...I have been going to Luger's for 20 years and could not recomnmend it more highly.

Flew over from london excited to visit peter luger's on a recommendation from some friends who live in NY. It certainly isnt worth the hype. The food is basic steakhouse fare, cooked in the obligatory rare fashion. As steak goes one can't really complain; however when one considers the decor and the incredibly rude staff, one realises that peter luger's should be avoided at all costs.
The decor's grimey and fashioned like a traditional american tavern - wooden floors, scratched wooden bar. The barman was without a doubt the most rude inconsiderate, slow serving, miserable old sod ive ever had the misfortune to have to speak to. It never ceases to amaze me that despite his incredible rudeness he still frowned upon the ten dollar tip i gave him for a $40 round. Only in America!
Its cash only, they dont give you a proper receipt and i certainly wont be taking any of my clients to peter lugers again. The food is ok, but not worth the hassle.
