Many people forget about this Midtown standby in favor of glitzy new rooms with a trendy clientele. It’s a shame considering The Manhattan Ocean Club is the place for fresh fish. Start with marinated smoked salmon or gravlax, fresh oysters and clams---even sea urchins or crab in season. We’ve enjoyed the spicy and moist crab cakes and the swordfish au poivre. The two-level dining room is pleasant with flattering lighting, comfortable seating and attractively appointed table settings. The computerized wine list contains some good California wines and some fairly good French ones.- April 2005
