Manhattan Grille
our comments
The food is better than ever at Manhattan’s best-dressed steakhouse. Not that you must dress up for Larry Cresci’s Manhattan Grille. No, it’s that Cresci has created a truly handsome, classic steakhouse, from the long sweep of the varnished wood façade with flower boxes on windows that open, to the hunter green drapes and richly paneled interior. The restaurant oozes an established and lush aura. And the food is good, too. Start with bacon-loaded clams Casino, oysters Rockefeller or a towering layered mosaic of mozzarella, tomato and peppers. Steaks and chops are all you could wish. Soft-shell crabs come three to an order, all standing up in a crisp potato wrapper surrounded by small calamari rings. Buttery mashed potatoes and nutmeg-infused creamed spinach are must-have sides.- April 2005
