For the Manhattanites who'd groan through the trek to Brooklyn for a slice from the famed Di Fara Pizzeria, a miracle has happened: the offspring of Dominic de Marco, Di Fara's owner, have opened a cozy pie joint in the comfortable confines of Greenwich Village. The burnt-orange walls, exposed brick and friendly service create an intimate atmosphere, save for the unfortunate large plasma screen TV above the bar. Though the menu includes many old school Italian-American faves---eggplant Parmigiana, veal scaloppini, chicken Milanese---the real rave is the pizza. The tomato sauce is a perfect combination of tangy and sweet and the crust nicely balances the fine line between crispy and doughy. Diners have a choice of round or square pie and can pick from a dozen toppings. The wine list, which has a handful of Italian and California labels, isn't remarkable, but that's not why people come here anyway.- April 2005
